The gradient tool can be pretty useful once you get the hang of it. They can add awesome effects and are even used when making the awesome looking buttons, something like this:



First lets find the gradient tool. There shoulod be an Icon (6th from the top on the right) which looks like this: . Now that we have the gradient tool, there is a bar at the top which is where we manage the gradients.



The little rectangles to the side....



These are the different ways gradients can show up. In other words "Gradient Styles" in a sense. Once you combined gradients with blending modes, you can get a lot of effects. Example:

I selected the Rainbow Gradient and then put the blend mode on Saturation to get this:



Makes a bit of differnece huh?

How Do I change gradient Sets though?
Under the "File, edit etc..." Menu there is the gradient tool bar.

click the arrow next to the gradient


The menu which will apear on the right (the white menu) is where you will pick the gradient sets which you have on your pc.

Well, How do I make My own Gradients?
This is simple enough, first lets make sure we have our gradient tool open. Now remember that top gradient tool bar? The gradient preview you have you want to click. You should get a window similar to this:

Next, look at this:


See those little arrows pointing up? Which in this picture are White and a black/gray checker. Double click these arrows. Your color picker should pop up at which time you can choose another color.

If you Click in a random area along the color strip a new color will apear.

once you have the colors you want, you need to save the gradient.

Where it says 123 write what you want it to be called then click "New" it will appear in the top window.

Well How do I save this set I made?

Saving a set is no different then saving a set of Patterns or Brushes. First lets open this up again:


You see how there is an option which says "Preset Manager" You need to click that. you should then get a window that shows up similar to this:

You need to select the gradients you want in the set, to select more then one hold down the Shift key when you click each one. Next hit "Save Set" and name it then clkick save as and you're done.
