How to use downloaded Emoticons // « Back

Emoticons...those smilies on everyones sites. Some of them look so cute don't they? Makes you want to have them on yours. But How do I get them there? I have them downloaded but I don't know how to make them usable. Well this is pretty simple. First, lets open our sites' FTP.

Now click on your Cutenews folder, within it you should find a directory (folder) called data. You want to next open this folder you should see about 4 folders, one of them (the third one) is Emoticons. Once you have this folder open you will find a list of emoticons that are currently in Cutenews.

Ok well what am I supposed to do now? How are finding these any help? Well this is where you are going to upload your Smilies, into this folder. You may want to delete the pictures in this folder if you have ones with similar names.



Once you have them uploaded (if you dont know how to upload stuff in FTP then go to the FTP tutorials) you want to sign into your cutenews. Once you are logged in click on "options." You will then see a list of options, one is called "System configurations" it's the second link on the left side. The page which will come up will look like this or similar:



See the area where it says Smilies? (4th one) On the left there is an area where mine says cloudy1, cloudy2. This is where you need to add the smilies names (without the .gif part of the file name) once you have done that your smilies should work. Seperate all the smilie names with a comma also. If they don't work, make sure you typed the name correctly and didn't forget to seperate them.
